We put LASIK first for a simple reason: its required follow-ups, usually the next day and around one week, must happen before you fly. Starting with LASIK leaves room for them. Dental visits then fill the middle of the trip. The dental exam can happen on the same day as LASIK pre-op testing because both are low-stress appointments.
Things to tell both providers
- Every medication. Dental work may involve antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, or sedatives. Your LASIK surgeon prescribes drops and sometimes oral medication. Each provider should see the full list.
- Sedation. If dental work involves sedation, ask the dentist to schedule it away from your LASIK surgery day and day-1 check, and ask your eye surgeon whether they have timing preferences.
- Eye protection in the chair. Dental lights are bright and procedures can spray water and debris. Wear your sunglasses or the protective glasses the clinic provides, and tell the dental team you had eye surgery.
- No eye rubbing. Numbness and long appointments make it tempting to rub your face. Keep your hands away from your eyes.
